Through these experiences, I have been able to gain the knowledge of understanding the feelings of others and how to assist others effectively. While dealing with children, it gave me the ability to relate to them and be perceived as a friend and someone who they can have as a role model of some sort. I was able to co-operate with people of different age groups and work with children, which I believe is an important skill.
Personal Development
Throughout my service learning, I felt that i have developed myself as a person of helping others. It felt great every time I was able to help and volunteer throughout the events and activities that were held. I needed to learn how to manage my time and attention to certain things at a time by determining how to plan out my schedule which would teach me the skill of becoming more organized and develop prioritizing important things.
Social Development
Throughout my entire life I have been seen as an introvert being quiet and reserved. I have always kept to myself, but with these activities and volunteering events, I have grown to develop the ability to interact with others effectively. I see this skill translating to not only at school, but at my job as well which gives me an advantage. The volunteering experience has given me the ability to grow out of my "shell" and co-operate with others.
Community Development
Due to the involvement that I had in the activities, I noticed that the popularity of the my school was growing as the involvement throughout town gave recognition. As a result of these events, lots of money was fund raised to support the school programs and continue growing throughout the community.
Learning Outcomes
Investigation
During my investigation, I had the process of being able to sign up to volunteer at the Cold Springs Family Center. I had to fill out information and sign in on the volunteering sheet to check in. With the Reno Tournament of Champions, it was the same process. I had to check in with my football coach and cross out my name and write down my hours of participation.
Preparation
While preparing for what time I would be available was a good skill I was able to pick up. I gained the ability of prioritizing and finding time to work out different activities throughout my schedule. I grew the ability to manage my schedule and time while being organized.
Acting
After preparing and working out my schedule, I was able to succeed in my volunteer work and help as much as I could with the amount of time I had. I was satisfied with the help I provided and planned on continuing to volunteer.
